Who do I think I am
My photography journey started back in 1990 as I attempted to document the adrenaline junkie adventures of my friends and I. Eventually things evolved to having an at home darkroom where I started to develop and process portraits, street photography and early attempts at being creative.
I began formal study in photography at the University of Saskatchewan while pursuing a multifaceted degree combining fine art, Kinesiology, philosophy and religious studies. I was drawn to documentary photography and photojournalism as well as more introspective explorations. Wary of the challenges of being a full time artist I pursued a more "practical" career completing a Masters Degree in Education & Conflict Resolution in Switzerland.
I worked in the public school system, private schools and on a number of community development projects, with photography always on the side. In 2005 things switched to photography being the full-time focus and community development and education projects being on the side.
In 2014 my eldest son Zia and I founded Kalyan Studios adding video production to the quiver of services.
Every year I am privileged to work with a wide variety of fascinating people and I am very grateful for the opportunity.
From a philosophical and creative perspective, I remain emphatically passionate about the role of the arts in releasing human potential - as individuals, communities and collective efforts of working for positive social change.
